Classes are Monday- Wednesday. See you at the Farm!

Join us on Mondays from February 17th through April 13th for Puppets for Permaculture: The Abundance Circus with Gregory Foster

Children will discover the ethics and principles of permaculture as they make giant puppets for a class-created community circus to be performed in the spring at The Ecology Center.  Together we will sing, celebrate the history of puppetry as a transformative art, explore elements of theatre, improvise, write and rehearse scenes, and co-create a simple circus on the theme.

Gregory Foster is a Lead Educator at The Ecology Center.  He comes to us with over 20 years of teaching and theatre experience as a Waldorf class teacher in Vermont.  He has directed dozens of theatrical productions for children and adults, including Wizard of Oz, Willy Wonka, The Tempest, Urinetown, Camelot.  His favorite teaching moments occurred when he led classes to co-create original plays and performance art.

Tuesdays 2/18 – 4/14  Skate Wild: Wilderness Skills and Skateboarding with Todd Larson

Drawing from traditional camping skills combined with wilderness survival, Todd engages kids with experiential learning and a connection to the past and how it has shaped how we do things today.  This unique wilderness survival curriculum teaches youth to feel confident about how they relate to their natural surroundings. Activities include shelter building, friction fire, spoon/ bowl making, archery, and much more.

Todd Larson has been involved in youth outdoor education for the past 20 years.  As the founder of the Skate Wild foundation, a non profit connecting kids to the outdoors, he takes a very hands on approach to this goal.  For a closer look at Todd’s work, visit

Wednesdays 2/19 – 4/15 Watercolor Painting with Brooke Kelly

This is not your ordinary painting class! During this eight week block  Brooke will share a series of eco friendly art classes. Students will forage for fruits and veggies to make watercolors, make their own upcycled paper and paint brushes, and then use all these elements to create a painting.

Brooke is a local artist in San Clemente. Most days you’ll find her crafting in her van and surfing sano with friends. Brooke has been sharing her love for nature and art with our community for over 10 years. Whether that be teaching eco friendly art classes or sharing her nature inspired art. Learn more at

More about Farm Raised

Farm Raised is an enrichment program for children providing daily hands-on educational programming, modeling the ethos of a one-room schoolhouse through the exploration of The Ecology Center’s village.

Every day on our 28-acre certified organic farm our children will experience interconnectivity, collaboration, imagination, and inspiration with loving guidance by our village of experienced teachers, parents, farmers, chefs, community leaders, and artists. Children develop a love for learning, while actively nourishing the community, catalyzing a profound and lasting change in our relationship between people and the planet.

Our Open Studio sessions offer a variety of enrichment workshops featuring local artisans, craftspeople, and experts.  These workshops are designed to dig deeper into hands-on projects alongside our collective of makers and artisans. See below for new classes starting in February 2020. Each session is 8 weeks long and occurs one day a week– choose which day best suits you and your child. Sign up for one day or all!
