What makes a weed a weed? They are often hardy, full of seeds, and very misunderstood! Some of the unwanted or unexpected green sprouts that grow in our garden are superfoods hiding in plain sight. They are full of medicinal and nutritional value, taste delicious, and are totally free.
Learning how to identify and use weeds to your advantage is what this workshop is all about. Under the guidance of our resident herbalist, Monique Grimaldi, we will learn about the many edible weeds in our Southern California ecosystem and their specific medicinal uses and nutritional values. Then we will learn the secrets to identifying some of these weeds and go out to the farm to forage them. Once everyone collects their share, we will head to our outdoor farm kitchen and make a yummy pesto as a group. Everyone will get to take home a jar.
Learning how to use and identify weeds is empowering for your herbal journey and can be a great skill in your arsenal towards greater health.
Some of the weeds we will explore include nettles, mallow, Shepherd’s purse, and lambs quarter.
