Details

Closed-toed shoes are recommended but not required. Feel free to wear comfortable clothing and bring a reusable water bottle/canteen. We will be taking photos and possibly video to be used on our website, social and other educational media, by registering for this workshop you agree to our photo/video release policy.

Open Houses on the First Saturday of every month, invite you to sample all of what The Ecology Center has to offer. This month you will enjoy:

DIY SKILL STATION: SEEDBALLS – 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM

This month, our featured DIY activity is Seed Balls! This is the perfect planting method to protect seeds until they are ready to grow. This station is donation-based and will be available from 10 AM – 4 PM in our courtyard. This activity is suitable for all ages, bring your family and friends to make your very own Seed Ball!

LOCAL GOODS: MARMALADE TASTING – 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM

This year’s citrus grew in abundance at The Ecology Center! We are sharing the bounty of the season with a tasting of our orange and Mexican lime marmalades. Stop by our Tools For Change shop for a taste these preserves made with the fruit harvested from our garden

SEASONAL COOKING DEMO: 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM

Aurelie of The Grateful Kitchen will feature some of our favorite seasonal vegetables. She will show how our seasonal ingredient can be used in a variety of ways. Join Aurelie in our outdoor kitchen from a farm fresh cooking demonstration using various techniques and recipes.

ORGANIC BREAD SALE – 12:00 PM – 2:00 PM

BREAD Artisan Bakery, is returning to The Ecology Center for their ever popular pop-up bread sale. BREAD takes pride in their craft, using centuries-old traditions to naturally leaven the bread with local organic grains (made special for The Ecology Center). All bread is made with organic whole grains sourced from Grist & Toll and Central Milling with Abruzzi Rye and Sonora/Red Fife whole grains from Weiser Farms that is milled fresh at BREAD.

GUIDED GARDEN TOUR – 1:00 PM

Enjoy a guided tour of our beautiful gardens and historic Congdon home. On this tour, learn how and why we transformed a dirt lot into a thriving community ecosystem. We invite you to explore and imagine our house as your home while you discover simple solutions to implement in your community. Click above to RSVP to this special tour of our property.
