There’s something magical that happens when you get people around a table, engaged in meaningful conversation, breaking bread, connecting, and consciously looking for solutions to build an abundant future. It’s progressive and challenging and so interesting that the mere act of sharing a good meal — one made with ingredients grown with integrity and purpose – can be one of the most radical acts we can take.

During this time of year, I like to pause and reflect. To slow down and find moments of peace and joy — especially in this chaotic and complex world in which we live. When we find these moments of peace, gratitude surfaces — and, to me, gratitude is one of the simplest, yet most profound, expressions of humanity. When we are in gratitude for the large and complex, the simple and mundane, we feel a deep connection to the world around us. In simple terms, a reminder that we are all interconnected. And not just to each other — but to everything.

With Thanksgiving comes a feeling of gratitude for all species, all peoples. This celebration, Thanksgiving, began as a peace offering from indigenous people, a sharing of the harvest. In this journey of seeking harmony with the world around us, let’s remember to give thanks to those that have lived in harmony with their environment for thousands of years. Thanksgiving is our effort to become native to this place, planet Earth. A celebration of its people and its abundance.

We’ve got some insurmountable challenges ahead of us as humans on this planet. Let’s do our best to model collaboration, generosity, and harmony. Our goal is to find gratitude for what nature provides us (everything) and come together to protect it. To give more than we take.

This week, we take special care to enjoy our time with family and friends. We embrace the simple act of sitting around a table, engaged in meaningful conversation, breaking bread, and consciously looking for solutions to build an abundant future. We express gratitude for farmers, ranchers and all those that brought delicious food to our tables. We revel in the abundance of the season. We all have so much to be grateful for. I am grateful for you.
