Seed Art Mandala

Seeds arranged in a mandala on white.
The natural world is filled with patterns. One doesn’t have to look far to discover the beauty and genius of design when observing a pine cone, a flower, or a leaf to name just a few.

We can create our own beautiful patterns using seeds by creating a seed mandala. Feel free to include other objects from nature as well such as flowers, stones, or shells. The practice of creating mandalas comes from the far East. In Buddhist culture, mandalas are sometimes created with colored sand. They can be huge, with many people working together to create them. They are masterpieces – and when finished they are swept away – erased, reminding us of the transient nature of life on earth. There is a special challenge in creating a mandala with seeds, as they can move so easily. Enjoy the challenge, and drop into the concentration, and perhaps meditative state as you create beauty with nature.
